    I have 26 lamps around the house on one main wire and don't like to cut the main wire for every lamp. Using those connectors that puts a pin through the main wire have worked now for more than 2 years, but in last months water is getting in and causing failed connections, even I used some liquid tape to seal it. I really love the idea of not cutting the main wire as it avoid any added resistance in all those T connections that become critical for my quantity of lamps on a single wire. So what is best solution for anyone who don't want to cut the main wire?

    I reached to Cal for help. He responded that he wanted pics of the subject areas so he can answer the questions. His response was profound- in a good way! He made a personal video with my pics and pointed out where i should place what light. HE couldn't have made it any more simple to understand; he even suggested the light i should use. Needless to say it was an easy buy decision! Good content..

    Which one would you recommend for 18 AWG sprinkler wires? Really want the connection to last...and thinking one of these (even though you mainly do lighting) would be good. Thank you!

    Super helpful. Is there a rule-of-thumb for what wattage is best for each application? Should path light bulbs have 3 watts? Should up lights on the house have 4 watts? Should tall tree bulbs have 5 watts? Should upper roof eaves have soft diffuse bulbs?

    On e completely different note, how do fix lights that wont stand in the stake anymore because the plastic threaded part that screws into the stake is decayed? I use epoxy every year and it lasts for the season but next year back where I started. Yea I know I should replace the fixture but lot more work and dont have the money for new set. Any other suggestions?

    Hi there lightning dr, hope I could get some advice on the size of the transformer along with the wire size as well. I’m planning to run to paths 1st is about 250ft and the second is about 120ft. I was planning to purchase 1 transformer “600w” do you think this would be enough for two runs? Or should I buy two for have it run independently? Greatly appreciate your advice. Thank you in advance.

    Great video. Got an issue with in-retaining wall lighting (so wiring is not accessible without removing and recommending caps). Entire wall is out and original transformer died. But new one won't power it. However partially dismantling multiple bulbs allows direct powering of bulbs, but power does not propagate to other lights from these bulbs (I am connecting power to the place where red and black wires solder on to the led board). Does this mean I have a short somewhere? How come the light closest to power still lights up?

    Does a more fixture means that we need a bigger wire ? i suppose transformer has to be choosen accordingly. How to choose a wire ? I am planning for 10 uplights, 9 harscaping lights and 4 path way lights, i know they are many. Will appreciate a guidance.

      General rule of thunb when using led lights and a transformer with a 15 volt terminal is you can put up to 100 watts of lights on up to 250ft of 12/2 wire without any issues

    To up light the front of a white ranch. With a tall peak. Would you go 3w or 5w lights ?

    • @LightingDoctor
      @LightingDoctor 3 місяці тому

      Any second story peaks, I would recommend a 5 watt lamp. Firts story homes and ranch style homes a 3 watt is usually sufficient.

    Disclaimer: I am not a contractor, which means I can spend as much time on my home projects as I need to, in order to get the job done the way I want to. There is no way anyone could make a living using my methods. What I did for my landscape lighting was to slip a piece of heat-shrink tubing over the wires, solder the ends of the wires together, put some hot melt glue on the solder connection, slip the heat-shrink back over the connection, the hit it with a heat gun and wait until the hot melt glue squishes out of both ends. It takes time, but it creates a permanent connection that's mechanically sound, and 100% waterproof. Necessary tools: Milwaukee M12 cordless soldering iron, Milwaukee M18 cordless heat gun, and a generic M18 hot-melt glue gun (since Milwaukee doesn't their own yet).

    Great video, we have lived in our home for 20 years. All our landscaping lights are just buried under the pine straw. One night one of the 3 main lines heated up and set the pine straw on fire. We were able to put the fire out, but the issue was NOBODY was able to determine how this happened. Not the electrician nor the fire dept. The thought was the wire got wet over time as the insulation looked like maybe it got chewed up by squirrels and corrosion created the heat for the fire? Anyway, it over heated and set the pine straw on fire. Have you heard of this happening? We plan to totally replace all the landscaping lights and start over with all new LED's. We had the old system of lighting. Thanks,
